Coaching Career
George Kalchev’s impact on world wrestling goes far beyond his success on the mat. Early in his coaching career, he surprised the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation with his incredible coaching skills. He took over the CSKA Wrestling Club for juniors and, in just one year, Kalchev led the CSKA team from 15th place to 1st place in the national championship!
He then had a successful coaching career in France, working as an expert with the national teams and leading regional seminars. He also became the head coach of the Dijon Wrestling Club, and in three years, he took the team from the 4th division to the finals of the 1st division in France.
Over the years, Kalchev has had a 100% success rate with many individual wrestlers he has coached. All of them have achieved great international success, and some have won European and World titles. One of them is Bilyana Dudova: In 2021, under Kalchev’s guidance as her personal coach, Dudova achieved an amazing record—winning gold in all seven major international tournaments she competed in, including the European and World Championships, without losing a single technical point until the World final in Oslo.
This remarkable achievement earned Kalchev the “Most Successful Coach” award from the Bulgarian Ministry of Sports.
In 1989, George Kalchev created the successful project “George Wrestling Tours and Camps,” where he shares his experience and knowledge with thousands of young wrestlers from around the world. Many coaches who brought their wrestlers to “George Wrestling Tours” have noticed a big improvement in their wrestlers’ results after participating in “George Camps.”
